My favorite part of ABA is that there are so many things about ABA that I love and appreciate that I don’t know how to pick one. You can see progress happen tangibly. The graphs keep track and you can see progress in such a productive way. ABA is solution based. There are so many dynamic modalities in place and in motion. It shows that what you repeat is retained- not only for your clients but also for yourself. There is nothing that I enjoy more than NET, where all of this is blended in such an engaging but endearingly sneaky (play-based) way.
If you were a paste shape, I would be an irregular nonagon!
My favorite client memory is my client that enjoys watching videos of me falling off indoor rock climbing walls and congratulates me for failing so well. I love that she hypes me up when I fall from a 25 feet wall in slow motion.
In another life, I’m pretty sure I was a gecko!
My advice to someone starting in this field is that it’s difficult and it takes time but watch how ABA changes every facet of your life one day at a time. The way you adapt and improvise, the way you ask for help and apply the teaching methods, and the way you trust your instincts. The way you look at every problem with a solution-based mentality, the way you empathize and give grace to the uncomfortable moments. It’s really such a beautiful art. Ask questions, trust in yourself and believe in your clients. You’ll get it and your clients will love you for it. Keep going!
